So far, so good. We’ve kept up with the juicing in the mornings. Gotta love the husband that will get your juice ready AND clean the juicer when he is done. <3 I haven’t done any more smoothies yet but I did make homemade slow cooker apple cinnamon oatmeal....
Before I start….Jack thinks he got the ingredients wrong. We should have had 4 apples and 1 lemon, not 2 lemons which would explain why it turned out so tart. He read somewhere that this is the best homemade lemonade so we’ll have to try it again. Either way, I think I’m going to still be thirsty after I’m done drinking this.
It was definitely tart! We both finished our glasses though without adding any sugar to it. I did drink a glass of unsweetened almond milk about an hour afterwards though. We are done for the night…going to throw in a movie and relax.
We tried another juicing today…this one I didn’t care too much for. I HATE beets. The ingredients we used are below.
1 beet with leaves (root, stem, stalk…whatever you call it)
3 oz 100% carrot juice
1 piece ginger
1 tsp minced garlic
2 cups kale
3 celery stalks
handful of spinach
2 lemons (1 of the 2 added after tasting the rest)
5 ounces 100% orange juice (added after tasting above after the video)
So, after adding the lemons and orange juice, I was able to drink it. Which is a good thing…I hate beets but they are good for you!
Later, I used my Ninja Kitchen System Pulse (Model BL207QBK) and blended strawberries, cherries, blueberries, oranges, and unsweetened almond milk to make a 16 ounce drink. It wasn’t thick enough to be a smoothie but wasn’t as liquefied as the juices we have done the past two days. I do love my Ninja!
So it is the beginning of a new year and the time to try some new things. Nothing too drastic. I’m not giving up my morning coffee but I will make it my only cup of the day. I’ve already been drinking more water than I used to but I’m not known to sit down and eat fruits and vegetables. Honestly, we eat out more than we eat at home which is not good. So we are making some changes. My husband and I watched Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead by Joe Cross. I recommend this to everyone even if you don’t need to lose weight. I have, also, been reading The Daniel Plan Jumpstart Guide: Daily Steps to a Healthier Life by Rick Warren D.MIN., Daniel Amen M.D. and Mark Hyman M.D. We purchased a Jack LaLanne Fusion Juicer and got started yesterday. I don’t plan on juicing only but I am using it to replace meals that I don’t normally eat anyway like breakfast or lunch. We are going to start making healthy dinners at home instead of grabbing fast food.
We tried our first juicing attempts yesterday. Below is the video of one of them. I am the one behind the camera LOL so you can watch my husband, Jack. We used 2 apples, 1 lemon, 2 sticks of celery, 1/2 of a cucumber, 2 handfuls of kale, 2 handfuls of spinach and a bit of ginger. I think I listed it all. The celery and cucumbers were not organic but will be next time and the ginger was just a squeeze ginger we had in the refrigerator. We plan on buying ginger root on our next trip to the grocery store.
I have to say it tasted really good! It doesn’t look like there is much juice but both times juicing gave us about 9 ounces each so that worked out really well. I am, also, still using my Ninja to make smoothies, which I love! I am hoping that these changes will help my energy levels, my weight, and really, how I feel in general. January and February are not my favorite months so I’ll take any help I can get! Anyway, Happy New Year’s to you and I wish all good things to you in 2016!
